The LA84 Foundation was established to manage Southern California’s share of the surplus from the highly successful 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Foundation received an endowment of $93 million. Since it began operations in 1985, it has invested $220 million in sports programs serving more than three million youth in Southern California.
The Foundation’s mission is to serve youth through sport and to increase knowledge of sport and its impact on people’s lives. Since inception, the LA84Foundation has played a significant role in increasing the opportunities for youngsters to have high quality sports experiences throughout Southern California.
Through grant making the Foundation provides funding to non-profit organizations to purchase sport equipment, pay for field improvements and usage, waive fees for those youngsters who can’t afford to pay fees and for other costs related to the field of play. The Foundation also offers a free coaching education program to ensure that those coaching youngsters have the required knowledge and expertise. Foundation initiated sports programs teach youngsters to run, swim, and track cycle. We are making a difference in the communities we serve.
